The North from the Air
For centuries, the north of Ireland has attracted visitors eager to see for themselves some of the most splendid natural scenery in the world. The Giant's Causeway, the Mountains of Mourne, the Glens of Antrim, the Fermanagh Lakeland . . . the list is inexhaustible.
Lovely as these landscapes are from ground level, their impact from the air is truly breathtaking. Everything is intensified - the famous green of the fields, the inviting sweep of the beaches, the majesty of moorland and mountain, the silver of rivers and waterways.
Esler Crawford, one of Ireland's leading commercial photographers, has been capturing these stunning landscapes for many years and has now consented to allow around 135 of his best aerial photographs to be published in volume form. The result - a large format hardback, designed and produced to the highest standards - is one of the most beautiful books about the north ever to be published.
Esler Crawford was born in 1937 and educated at Larne Grammar School and Queen's University Belfast, where he graduated with a Ph.D. in chemistry. He worked for seven years as an industrial chemist before becoming a professional photographer in 1969. He is married with three children and lives in County Antrim.
